About

Short Courses. Real Preparation. Lasting Impact.

The Short Course Institute was built on a simple belief: that structured, assessed learning should be available to anyone who is serious about it.

Our Mission
Why we exist

The Short Course Institute exists to offer short, specialist courses that take learners seriously. Not certificates for showing up. Not completion badges for clicking through slides. Actual assessed work, actual feedback, actual grades.

Every course is built around the idea that the best way to consolidate knowledge is to be asked to explain and defend it. That is why each course includes both a written assessment and an interview assessment. Both matter. Both are marked. Both contribute to your grade.

We work with adult learners aged 18 and over, including university students, graduates, early-career professionals and international learners who want to develop specialist knowledge with real academic rigour behind it.

"We do not issue certificates for participation. We issue certificates for performance."

Jordan Wheel
Head of Academic
The Short Course Institute

Jordan spent five years teaching, including within one of England's most prestigious educational institutions, the oldest IB World School in the country. Working across both academic delivery and operational leadership, the role demanded not just classroom excellence but an understanding of how rigorous international programmes are built, managed and sustained at the highest level.

Since leaving, Jordan has focused on curriculum development and teacher support, working with educators to design structured programmes that are academically coherent, practically deliverable and genuinely useful to learners. That experience informs every course and every piece of feedback issued by The Short Course Institute.

Every assessment submitted to The Short Course Institute is personally reviewed, marked and returned with written feedback. There is no automated marking, no outsourced grading. Your work is read carefully by someone who has spent years inside serious academic institutions and knows what good work looks like.

What We Stand For
Our principles
I
Academic rigour
Every assessment is marked against published criteria by an experienced teacher. There are no automatic passes. Your grade reflects your actual standard.
II
Honest feedback
Feedback is specific, written and tied to the marking criteria. It tells you what was strong, what needs development and why your grade was awarded.
III
Accessible learning
Course materials are free to access for everyone. The assessment fee covers marking, feedback and certification — not access to knowledge.
IV
Credible certification
A graded, hand-signed certificate means something because it is earned. Distinction, Merit and Pass reflect genuine differences in quality of work.
V
Specialist content
Courses are focused and specific. Business, economics, management, data — each course goes into real depth rather than skimming a broad topic.
VI
Professional standards
The Viva exists because professional life requires you to explain your thinking under pressure. We test that from the start.
